BEHIND THE BOOKS · OUR CREATIVE PROCESS

How are our novels created?

At BF1 Reads, our novels are developed through a substantial collaboration between human creativity and advanced artificial intelligence. They are not books produced by entering a simple prompt and allowing AI to do everything.

Human creation and creative direction are at the heart of our process.

The human creative vision

Every novel begins with the development of a story concept. Considerable human input goes into shaping its premise, characters, personalities, relationships, motivations, conflicts, setting, atmosphere, plot developments and eventual ending.

We explore possibilities, challenge ideas, resolve plot holes, question character decisions and establish the rules that govern each fictional world. Major creative decisions are directed, reviewed and approved by a human before the story progresses. This often means extensive discussion, reconsideration and refinement.

From creative vision to manuscript

Once the story's foundations are established, detailed planning determines how its chapters, characters, conflicts, revelations and narrative progression should unfold.

Our specialist AI writing systems help turn that human-directed creative framework into a complete manuscript. AI performs much of the actual prose drafting, but the story is extensively shaped and directed by human decisions.

Human involvement continues during writing: developments are questioned, direction is adjusted, inconsistencies are challenged and revisions are requested whenever something fails to deliver the intended story.

Extensive review, revision and quality control

Completing the first manuscript is only one stage. Our novels go through a structured process involving reader-experience reviews, continuity checking, story repair, proofreading and detailed quality assessment.

Specialist AI systems help identify weaknesses, but human judgement remains central to determining whether the story works. Further revisions may be directed to strengthen characters, improve dialogue and pacing, address contradictions, deepen emotional impact or ensure the ending rewards the reader's investment.

A novel is not considered finished simply because AI has produced a draft or an automated assessment has generated a score. Human review and final approval matter.

How much human involvement is there?

A significant amount, throughout the entire creative and production process. Developing a single novel can take several days, with numerous creative decisions, detailed instructions, reviews, corrections, revisions and approvals.

The balance between human and AI contributions varies from novel to novel, so there is no meaningful fixed percentage. AI supplies substantial writing and analytical capability; human creativity supplies ongoing direction, critical judgement and final editorial authority.

Our named AI authors are fictional creative identities, not individual human writers, and we are transparent about using artificial intelligence.

Getting started

What is BF1 Reads?

BF1 Reads brings together original Built From One novels in one online collection, with companion music for selected stories. Try the free opening chapters, then choose monthly membership to read the collection online or buy individual ebooks to keep. Albums are separate purchases. We publish one new novel every Saturday.

Who can register, subscribe or buy downloads?

Accounts, membership and ebook or album purchases are for UK and US residents aged 18 or over. We ask for age and residence declarations and check the billing country returned by Stripe when you pay. Your registered country selects the price and currency before payment. Contact support if you think an eligibility restriction is incorrect.

Who are the authors behind the names?

Our named AI authors are fictional creative identities representing distinct genres and storytelling styles. They are not separate human writers.

Can I try a book before buying or subscribing?

Yes. Read the first three story chapters free without creating an account or paying for membership. Opening and copyright pages are also free and do not count towards those three chapters. The free allowance is shown on each book’s page. Creating an account alone does not start a subscription or take a payment.

How often are new novels added?

One new novel every Saturday. Each weekly release joins the collection for members to read online and is available to buy separately as an ebook.

Monthly membership

How much does membership cost, and what is included?

Membership costs £6.99 GBP per month for UK customers or $8.99 USD per month for US customers. Your registered country determines the currency before payment. It renews automatically each month until you cancel future renewals. Membership includes browser reading access to the currently published collection, with no separate charge for each novel. Ebook and album downloads are bought separately and are not included in membership.

How do I start reading the full books?

Create an account and verify your email, then choose how you want to read. Monthly membership gives full access in the BF1 Reads browser reader; a separate ebook purchase gives you an EPUB to read in a compatible ebook app. Review the price, terms and immediate-supply choices before payment. Access is provided after payment, eligibility and confirmation checks.

Can I cancel my subscription?

Yes. Go to My account, choose Manage subscription and cancel future renewals before your next payment is processed. You normally keep reading until the end of your paid period. Cancel renewal rather than delete your account if you want to keep that remaining access.

Do I keep my purchased ebooks and albums if I cancel membership?

Yes. Cancelling membership renewal does not cancel separate ebook or album purchases. Keep the downloaded files for personal use; your online membership reading access normally ends when the paid period finishes. Keep your account if you want future access to Purchased books and My albums. Account deletion removes account download access, so save your files and backups first.

Books & reading

Can I buy a book without subscribing?

Yes. Each ebook costs £2.99 GBP for UK customers or $3.99 USD for US customers as a one-off purchase. Choose a book, sign in to your verified account and select Buy ebook. After payment and confirmation, download your EPUB from Purchased books and open it in a compatible ebook reader. Your downloaded copy is yours to keep; no subscription is required.

Do I need an app or a Kindle, and can I read offline?

Membership reading works in a current web browser on a phone, tablet or computer with an internet connection; no app or Kindle is needed. Purchased ebooks are EPUB files for a compatible reading app and can be read offline once downloaded and imported. For Kindle, use Amazon’s Send to Kindle service; compatibility and conversion are controlled by Amazon. You can find EPUB and Kindle instructions alongside your download in Purchased books. Ebook downloads are separate from membership.

How do I find books and save them for later?

Use Browse books to search by title, author name or story description, and filter by genre or reading mood. Sign in to your verified account to choose Save for later on a book. Your saved books appear in My library. Saving a book does not buy it or unlock paid chapters.

Will it remember where I stopped reading?

When you are signed in, the BF1 Reads browser reader saves your reading position to your account. Sign in to the same account on another device to continue. You can adjust the reader’s appearance in Reading settings. Progress inside a separate EPUB reading app is managed by that app and does not sync back to BF1 Reads.

Companion albums

What are the companion albums?

They are music albums inspired by a novel’s themes, characters and atmosphere: another way to explore its world, during or after reading. They are not audiobooks or narrated chapters. Selected novels have an album; look for the Music available label when you browse books, then open that book’s companion album section.

How are the albums made?

Built From One creates the albums through human creative direction and AI generation. We develop the lyrics and musical direction around the novel, using AI as part of the process. AI music-generation tools produce the music and, where used, the singing voices. We choose the tracks and decide what is published. We describe this openly as human-directed, AI-generated music.

Can I listen before buying an album?

Yes. Open a book’s companion album section and select a track in the track list to hear a free preview of up to 45 seconds. You do not need to buy the novel or have a paid membership to hear available previews. If previews are still being prepared, the player will say so.

How much is an album, and do I need membership?

No membership or ebook purchase is required. Each album costs £2.99 GBP for UK customers or $3.99 USD for US customers as a one-off purchase. Album downloads are sold separately from ebooks and monthly reading membership; buying one does not include the others. Sign in to a verified account, choose Buy album on the book’s page and review the album details, terms and supply choices before payment.

What do I get with an album download?

The album includes the original WAV tracks, a 320 kbps MP3 version, and front and rear cover artwork. Downloads are supplied as ZIP files: extract the files and play the tracks in a compatible music player. Your downloaded files are yours to keep. This is a digital album, not a physical CD.

Where do I download my album, and do I have to request the MP3s?

After payment and confirmation, sign in to the same account and open My albums. Choose Download WAV ZIP or Download MP3 ZIP. The MP3 album is prepared automatically when you request the download; it may take a few minutes, and you can leave the page and return later. You do not need to message us to have MP3s prepared. If preparation reports a problem, contact support; your WAV download remains available.

Reading Club, accounts & help

Is the Saturday Reading Club the same as paid membership?

No. The Saturday Reading Club is a free email newsletter with new-release news and spoiler-free introductions. It does not include paid reading access, ebook downloads or albums. Join on the homepage and confirm using the link we email you. You can unsubscribe using the link in a newsletter; this does not cancel a paid membership. Likewise, cancelling membership does not unsubscribe you from the newsletter.

My verification email has not arrived. What should I do?

Check your spam or junk folder and that you used the right email address. Open Verify email to request a new link for that same account, then follow the newest email link. You do not need to create another account. If it still does not arrive, contact support@builtfromone.com with your account email. A request confirmation alone does not prove the email reached your inbox.

What if I forget my password?

Use Forgot password? with the email address on your existing account, then follow the reset link we email you. If it does not arrive, check spam or junk and contact support. Never send us your password or payment-card details.

I paid, but my reading access or download is missing. What should I do?

Sign in to the account used for the purchase. Check My account for membership, Purchased books for ebooks, or My albums for music. Payment and purchase-confirmation checks can take a short time; refresh the page, or use Check payment if it is shown. If the page reports a billing-country review or the problem continues, contact sales@builtfromone.com with your account email, title and order reference if available. Please do not pay again while the first purchase is being checked.

What about refunds and cancellation rights?

Stopping renewal and exercising statutory cancellation rights are different. Immediate digital reading involves separate consent and acknowledgement about the initial cancellation right; it does not remove your rights if content is faulty or misdescribed. See our cancellation information and the purchase-specific ebook or album terms for the rights that apply to your country and purchase, or contact sales@builtfromone.com for help with a request.

What if I need help?

For signing in, verification, reading, album previews or download problems, email support@builtfromone.com. For ebook or album payments, refunds or membership cancellation, email sales@builtfromone.com. Tell us the affected book or album, your account email and what happened; keep passwords and payment-card details out of your message. Our Support page brings the contact options together.
