BF1 ORIGINAL FICTION
THE KINDEST VERSION
A disgraced senator retreats to an isolated mountain cabin with his wife, hoping to save their marriage. But her sudden kindness conceals something deeply unsettling, and the answers may lie inside the car he cannot bring himself to open.
ABOUT THE STORY
Senator Adrian Sutterfield has made a career out of finding the right words. But when an affair threatens his marriage and political future, even his carefully crafted explanations begin to fail.
He retreats with his wife, Claire, to a remote mountain cabin, hoping distance from the scandal might give them another chance. There, Claire seems different: warmer, more forgiving, almost like the woman he remembers from years ago.
Then small things stop adding up. She recalls moments that never belonged to their marriage. Her voice carries an unsettling familiarity. And Adrian cannot quite remember the final stretch of their drive.
Outside, their car sits in the rain, just thirty yards from the door. Inside, a woman who knows him intimately keeps offering reasons to stay.
Adrian has spent his life controlling the story. This time, the truth may be waiting beyond the warmth of the cabin.
