BETWEEN STATIC AND SILENCE

By Simon Haverley

An unplugged radio lets a grieving man hear the lives he never lived.

ABOUT THE STORY

When sound-restoration specialist Jonathan Ellison returns to Greyhaven after his father’s death, he expects a difficult house clearance, not a voice calling from an unplugged radio.

The voice sounds exactly like his own. But it describes a life Jonathan never lived.

Soon other voices follow, each claiming a different past: a successful career, a life spent caring for his father, a family he cannot remember. And as forgotten photographs and old recordings begin to contradict everything he knows, Jonathan starts hearing the voices far beyond the radio.

His childhood friend Catriona wants him to step away before he loses himself. Jonathan needs to know why the past is changing around him—and whether the people he remembers losing might belong to a life he has somehow forgotten.

Somewhere between static and silence lies a truth he may not be ready to hear.
